The Time for Standards is Now
Monday, April 25, 2011 at 4:40PM I am sure you have had the experience of going through your hard drive or your server and finding all kinds of valuable data locked up in formats that probably will never see the light of day because they are in one proprietary data format or another. At last week's PUG I was struck by the number of companies beginning to pay attention to oil and gas data standards. Admittedly, some of these have been around a long time, but it seems like the flood of data has reached crisis proportions and exploration companies are beginning to pay attention to these problems. Not only that, but the "cloud" promises a way to store data more globally for access by all. Had a nice chat with Steve Cooper at Energy IQ who works with PPDM and also has a consultancy that helps people load data into that model, i.e. PPDM in a box.
